wilderness first aid

OVERVIEW:

Are you someone who enjoys outdoor activities, works in the outdoors or just loves exploring remote wilderness areas? If so, it's essential to be prepared for potential emergency situations that may arise. That's where our Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course comes in.

By completing this course, you'll gain the skills and knowledge needed to provide immediate and long-term care to an injured or suddenly ill patient in a remote location. Our comprehensive course content aligns with the WFA National Skill Set (SISSS00126), providing you with a thorough understanding of wilderness first aid principles and techniques.

We focus on practical training scenarios, allowing you to practice and apply your skills in realistic wilderness situations. With our training, you will develop the confidence and expertise required to manage emergency situations and effectively coordinate emergency responses in the field.

DURATION:

  • Full Course = 5 days (including 1 night scenario) + Online theory component

  • Refresher = 2 days (including 1 night scenario) + Online theory component 

  • Important: Refresher participants must hold a current WFA certification & be confident in Wilderness First Aid skills and processes. We strongly recommend participating in at least 2 Full Courses before enrolling in a Refresher

remote area first aid

OVERVIEW:

This course provides you with the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in a remote or isolated site over an extended period of time until medical assistance is provided, or evacuation occurs.

​

Important: What is the difference between Remote Area First Aid & Wilderness First Aid? RAFA derives its basis from the Health Training Package whilst the WFA finds its basis with the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package. From a skills and knowledge perspective they are very similar and the underlying fundamentals are the same. However, the WFA has more in it and an extra focus on dealing with a greater range of scenarios plus the co-ordination of emergency responses.

OVERVIEW:

Our course is designed to meet the first aid requirements applicable to both general workplace and general community settings. Participants will acquire essential skills and knowledge that align with the guidelines set forth by the national VET (Vocational Education and Training) system and the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).

Moreover, we offer the flexibility to tailor the course to suit your specific industry needs, ensuring that the training directly addresses the unique challenges and circumstances of your workplace.

Additionally, our team is equipped to conduct the training conveniently at your workplace, eliminating the need for participants to travel and allowing for a more efficient and customised learning experience.

  • First Aid Course WITH Online theory component = 1 day

  • Important: The 1 day course requires you to complete an online theory component prior to attending the practical!

Mental health first aid

workshop

OVERVIEW:​

​This course is a Mental Health First Aid Australia Accredited course offering comprehensive content covering many common mental health issues.

The course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to another person experiencing a mental health problem or having a mental health crisis.  We focus on facilitating group discussions and simple scenarios to enable our students to practically apply the evidence-based action plan to realistic crisis situations and assisting individuals to access appropriate professional help.

The MHFA workshop skill base will allow you to provide immediate and long term support and care to individuals experiencing a range of mental health problems or in crisis.

The course will also help participants develop de-escalation communication techniques, strategies to implement when communicating with someone about their mental health and provide you with an in-depth understanding of appropriate resources and professional services available in the community and how to access them.

Mountain bike first aid 101

OVERVIEW:​

This is a non-accredited course aimed at providing you with the basic skills to deal with common mountain bike injuries and accidents.

This course is a must for those avid riders out there who want some basic first aid skills for themselves and their mates, or who have a First Aid certificate and want to know how to apply the knowledge to mountain bike scenarios.

These courses are run by one of our paramedics who also doubles as a super experienced outdoor guide... and she also manages the 'Bike Patrol Team'  at the Mountain Bike Park...so rest assured that the information and skills shared are top notch!
